The Impressive Volvo V90

“Car Wow” recently produced an enthusiastic video review of the 2017 Volvo V90 and we can see why.

It’s hard to find a station wagon on the market today that both looks great and actually fulfills its function as a station wagon. Amazingly, however, this is exactly what the Volvo V90 achieves. With an eight-speed automatic transmission, front wheel drive, and a 240 horsepower, 2.0 liter turbo engine, it’s got everything you need for toting around the family and plenty of power to make driving fun again. There are plenty of upgrade options, including bumping up to a 316 horsepower engine and all-wheel drive. There’s even going to be a plug-in hybrid version available!

Volvo is just about the only brand on the market that is still making station wagons. Just about every other brand has given up, and while Volvo has put a lot of time and effort into perfecting the sedan, they are not going to let go of the wagon any time soon. It’s part of their legacy, and that certainly shows with the care and attention to detail that has been put into the V90. It’s designed to be both comfortable and safe, while also still being plenty of fun to drive and supremely stylish. Like just about every vehicle in the Volvo lineup, it isn’t flashy, but it doesn’t have to be. It has a quiet elegance that is sure to draw the eye.

New Look & Tech

This vehicle is planned to hit the market in 2017 and is essentially going to be a wagon of the S90 luxury sedan that is already in Volvo showrooms around the world. What is different? The dimensions of the vehicle, for starters. It is actually shorter than the sedan, with less overhang at the rear of the vehicle. It’s also a little bit heavier, but not noticeably so.

While the sedan this wagon is based off of looks great, the V90 probably tops it in style. The elongated body has clean lines and modern styling. The interior is just as luxurious, perhaps even more so because there is more room. On the dash you will find a touch screen, which has completely overtaken the need for a single infotainment system-related knob. The result is a very sleek appearance, with just the climate controls underneath the nine inch screen. And though Volvo has not always been at the forefront of technology, they have obviously made an effort over the last year to outfit their vehicles, the V90 included, with the very best technology on the market—the touch screen and advanced safety features like adaptive cruise control included.

On The Road

How does the V90 drive? In a phrase: like a dream. It is a comfortable ride, just like all Volvos, but it also has a refined air about it that cannot be rivaled by many of the vehicles on the lot. It is extremely responsive to the driver, which means that it is going to be very fun to drive. And while power and control might not be at the top of the list for the average station wagon driver, Volvo is going to deliver it to them anyway, along with all of the utility that comes along with this body style.

Storage

The Volvo V90 combines the ultimate combination of style and storage space. There is around two more cubic feet behind the last row of seats than the S90, and a backseat that can actually be folded down for even more room. While there is no rear-facing third row, what it lacks in extra seating, it makes up for in roominess. If an SUV is too big (or just not right) and a sedan is too small, you’ll find the Volvo V90 to be just right.
